ABOUT US

A1 PORTABLES has its roots in a small garbage collection company, here in Lexington, began by my Great Grandfather, R.B.Carroll, in 1935. In 1953 his son-in-law and my Grandfather, O.T. Reynolds, a World War II Navy veteran, purchased a portion of the business to begin his own garbage collection company. This company, at that time identified by his own name, became A-1 Sanitation Service as it became a septic waste and later a portable toilet enterprise.

Our next change was when my own father, Eric Reynolds, graduating from Eastern Kentucky University in 1971, officially and in a full time commitment joined the business with my grandfather. At that time I was only 5 months in the womb. At sixteen I joined in the work and now, nearly 30 years later, I’m part owner and the manager of operations!

Our family business, under several names, but continuous and linked family ownership has been in operation over 80 years. Though A1 no longer provides garbage collection, our services continue to include Portable Restrooms, Portable Fencing, Portable Storage Containers and Mobile Offices. We service Lexington, Louisville and all adjoining counties, including eastern Kentucky. We have served many of you now reading this story and we hope to meet and serve many more of you and your companies in the years to come. I started working at A1 part time, after school when I was 16, mostly cleaning and repairing portable toilets. After graduating from the University of Kentucky, I went to work full time, and got to clean twice as many toilets!  Fifteen years later, I began working in outside sales and twenty years after that I became company president.  Looking back on my experience, I now realize the significant differences between each position I have held and, on most days, I can tell you with utmost sincerity, how much I miss cleaning portable toilets.  All humor aside, I am truly privileged to have been born into my family and allowed to become part of our business.  Like my father and grandfather, I do my best to treat our customers with the respect they deserve and all of our staff as extension of our own family, which is why we have people (other than myself) who have worked here over 30 years!
